1. WHAT TRAFAN TABLET IS AND WHAT IT IS USED FOR 
Trafan Tablet is a combination medicine containing two (2) active drugs, namely, Sulphadoxine and Pyrimethamine. Trafan belongs to a class of drugs known as anti-malarials. It works by inhibiting the synthesis of folic acid at two stages in the parasite that causes malaria infection. 

2. PRECAUTIONS AND WARNING BEFORE YOU TAKE TRAFAN TABLET
Contraindication:
• Do not take Trafan Tablet if you are allergic (hypersensitive) to the active drugs, sulphur or any of the ingredients of Trafan Tablet.
• You have megaloblastic anemia as a result of folic acid deficiency, severe renal or hepatic dysfunction or porphyria. 

Pregnancy and lactation:
• Pregnant mothers can take Trafan tablet only after quickening or 16 weeks after gestation under supervision.
• Do not take Trafan tablet during breast feeding.

Take special care with Trafan Tablet:
• If you have impaired renal or hepatic function, severe allergy or bronchial asthma, G6PD deficiency and seizure disorders

Stop Taking Trafan:
At the first sign of a rash or anemia (presenting as tiredness, fast heartbeat, pale lips/skin/nails) or a severe infection (presenting as high fever, severe chills persistent sore throat) and seek immediate medical attention.

Taking other Medicines:
• Please inform your Pharmacist or Doctor if you are taking or about to take any other medicine, including those obtained without a prescription.

3. HOW TO TAKE TRAFAN TABLET
• You should take your medicine exactly as your Doctor or Pharmacist directs you.
• The Tablets should be taken whole with a glass of water or meals. 

4. POSSIBLE SIDE EFFECT
Like all medicines, Trafan can curse side effects, although not everybody gets them. GI adverse effects like anorexia, vomiting and atrophic have been reported so are haematologic effects like aplastic anemia, megaloblastic anemia, leucopenia, thrombocytopenia, and pancytopenia. Hypersensitivity reactions such as rash, fever, pruritus, Stevens-Johnson syndrome and photosensitivity have also been reported.

Possible interactions with food and drugs
You should not use tobacco or alcohol while taking Trafan tablet. Folic acid and para-aminobenzoic acid reduce effects of Pyrimethamine. Sulfamethoxazole, methotrexate, zidovudine, trimethoprim and lorazepam should not be used together with Trafan tablet. 

5. SYMPTOMS AND TREATMENT OF OVER DOSAGE 
Overdose is marked by anorexia, vomiting and CNS stimulation including seizures. Megaloblastic anemia, thrombocytopenia, leukopenia, glossitis and crystalluria may also occur. Treatment of overdose consists of gastric lavage followed by a cathartic; barbiturates may help control seizures with folinic acid helping to restore platelet or leukocyte count.

6. HOW TO STORE TRAFAN TABLET
Keep your Medication out of reach and sight of children.  Keep it in the original package and store below 300c. Check the expiry date on the label and do not use if product is expired. 

7. FURTHER INFORMATION
Each tablet contains 500mg of sulphadoxine and 25mg of Pyrimethamine. The other ingredients in Trafan tablet are: Microcrystalline Cellulose, Povidone, Sodium Methylparaben, Sodium laurylsulphate, Maize Starch, Talc, Magnesium Stearate, and Silicone Dioxide.
